The THADOBATI is the most accessible style of traditional/antique bowl, with straight or 'upright' walls leaning very slightly out from a flat base. This creates an easy shape to hold, the option to create a delicious wah-wah with your hand on the base of the bowl, and makes it very easy to get a clear, crisp fundamental tone from both a strike or stir.
This bowl shape is more precise than the Jambati and tends to produce a clearer slightly more bell-like sound with less focus on the overtones and their interplay.
This piece is marked by the artisan makers with dashed carvings, a true stamp of quality heritage and the rich Newari* tradition from which it is sourced. It also has a lot of patina and copper oxide markings - which only show it's rich copper content - a desirable trait!
With it's perfect G3/C5 tuning this is a lovely little grounding, balancing, calming bowl for soothing the area below the collarbones as well as creating a peaceful stillness and quiet across a challenged throat chakra.
FUNDAMENTAL NOTE: G3/C5
FUNDAMENTAL FREQUENCY: 188Hz
CHAKRA: Throat/Vishudda
*Newari is the collective name of the tribal communities of the Kathmandu Valley
Small Thadobati Dashes Singing Bowl / 16.5cm / G3
- Antique bowls carry mineralisation and patina marks - this is a signature of their age and metallurgy, and should not be mistaken for damage. Please inspect the video carefully in advance of purchase. We are always happy to show bowls via video call if you prefer.
- All bowls have been tested extensively by our expert collectors and selected personally by Janie. Both parties have checked each bowl for structural and sonic integrity and are satisfied that it is of the highest standard.
- Bowls should be cleaned gently using fresh lemon juice and baking/bicarbonate of soda mixed into a paste. Apply with a soft cloth and buff away - rinse with warm water and a mild dish soap and dry immediately. Do not use scrubbers or any metal cleaning chemicals on your singing bowls, especially precious antiques.
